Everyone thinks he’s some hidden genius, but he knows the truth—it’s all the stupid systems fault!

He didn’t sign up for this. He doesn’t care about immortality, grand daos, or face-slapping arrogant nobles. He just wants to go home. But with each quest dragging him deeper into this world’s power struggles, escape might not be as simple as he hoped.

The story will start off reasonably grimdark, but I plan for it to be more of an easy read once everything is established. Let me know what you think!

Something is really, really wrong with the world.

Beyond the eldritch horror encroaching from beyond and the invasive species of man-eating aliens, something about the Federation of Man just isn't right. 

Superheroes aren't much of heroes anymore, and super villains... well, they just aren't super. Sure, they have the power to tangle with the best of them, but where's the pizzazz! Where's the I.T factor? 

The Federation of Man is desperately lacking a proper supervillain. 

Luckily for them, there might just be one on the rise.

Luke was fine with being a cashier, watching Villainy be made a mockery of by amateurs.

Lengthy Author's Note: Just like all of my other stories, this story will make use of advanced vocabulary and grammar. You can expect to read PLENTY of descriptions in order to increase immersion: in other words, my goal is for the reader to experience the world first-hand, including what the characters are thinking, feeling, seeing, smelling, tasting... etc.

Some people may call that style of storytelling "wordy."

I call it "high quality writing."

Queen of the Dead is a progression LitRPG adventure in a post-apocalyptic Earth where the gods have returned and shared their magical system with the mortals that choose to worship them.

After the initial rapid-release of chapters, we plan to release new chapters three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but that could change depending on how writing goes :)

After dying in an accident while performing field research, a senior archaeologist is transported to a fantasy world and reborn as a new dungeon core on an ancient sky island.  Struggling to figure out how to live as dungeon with a novel set of challenges, he progresses his new dungeon by expanding through archaeological levels of his new home.  Periods of dungeon engineering and archaeological exploration are interspersed with interactions with a variety of visitors - starting with an invading ground squirrel and ranging up to the dragon that currently dominates the island,  representatives of the Adventuring Guild, and the Church of the God of All Dungeons.  At the same time, he is learning about the previous occupants of the sky island, his new world more generally, and teasing out hints about his divinely-appointed mission.

This is a fairly slow growth progression story with episodes of exploration and combat with a focus on world-building and character development/dungeon engineering.  There is, in the current plan, no sex or romance, limited violence/gore, and some minimal swearing.

It didn't take him long to figure out what was happening, though. When he did something cool, he gained Aura points. When he acted lame, he lost them. Fighting monsters was cool. Running away screaming and crying is lame.

As I always loved kingdom-building stories together with progression fantasy stories, this is my try to blend the two together into one.

I started this story because I wanted to enjoy a progression fantasy wherein the characters progressed internally as much as they did externally.

I come from a bit of a screenwriting background and I’ve structured this story like a TV show with ~30 minute episodes.

Sometimes, all it takes to set the world ablaze is a few new ideas. 

John Hall did everything right. He put in the work and the hours, got his degree, and after a lengthy job search, he was settling in at his dream job in the field of Process Engineering!
